                         Ribs & Basket, Analysis of plain weave fabric

The extension of the plain weave can proceed either vertically, grouping together several picks in the same shed and resulting in warp ribs; or, horizontally with groups of neighboring ends working together and producing weft ribs; or, in both directions simultaneously, resulting in mat, hopsack or basket weave.
